2025 Lineup
Michael English
Michael English remains one of Irelands best loved singers & entertainers and 2025 will see him headline East Durham Irish Festival on Sunday 25th May. There is no stopping Michael, as he continues to diversify, win awards and gain even greater admiration for his talents from fans at home and abroad.
Born in Castlerdermot, Michael was born into a very musical family as his father played button accordion with a traditional Irish band, his late mother was an Irish dancer, and his two sisters played fiddle and piano.
At the age of nine, English started studying the piano formally at the Hennessy School of Music in Carlow. In 1990, he appeared on The Late Late Toy Show television programme with Gay Byrne at age 11. He continued his musical studies at the Royal Irish Academy of Music in Dublin and launched an Irish country music career. Henry McMahon of The Mainliners Showband offered him one of his own compositions, “The Nearest to Perfect” that became a hit for English in 1999. Signing a contract with Ritz Records, English won Best International Entertainer at the Irish National Entertainers Awards ceremony in both 2004 and 2005. He went on to record a number of albums, and a number of hit singles including Locklins Bar, Friday At The Dance, A Million Memories, Tuam Beat and many more.
Accolades and awards have come his way galore, including “Entertainer Of The Year” & “Male Vocalist Of The Year” along with 2 platinum albums, 6 studio albums and a brand new album due for release early 2025.
In this new show, audience members can expect to hear lots of familiar sing-a-long Irish songs with Michael’s own special touch, along with some ballads and of course many great country favourites from the likes of Charley Pride, Jim Reeves & Hank Locklin. Not forgetting some of his biggest hits and most requested numbers.

The Devil’s Brigade
Festival favorites that give fans electrically charged music at its finest! — NYS Music
From Scotland to Japan, Italy to Cuba, Spain to Guam to the Middle East, and across North America, this electrifying group is embracing Celtic, rock, world music, and more with daring, skill, and a wee bit o’ cheek.
Why The Devil’s Brigade?
The original Devil’s Brigade, formally known as the First Special Service Force, was a highly decorated Canadian/American commando unit in WWII. Their legendary heroism struck fear into the hearts of Nazis, and their legacy can be traced directly to the Canadian Special Operations Regiment and Green Berets. The American Rogues have long supported veterans, and by becoming The Devil’s Brigade in 2023, we honor those who serve and also reflect our own Canadian/American identity. We are not in league with Satan.
Drawing favorable comparisons to Wolfstone, Afro Celt Sound System, and Trans-Siberian Orchestra, and consistently providing performances from Grade 1 bagpipers and other world-class musicians, this high-energy Canadian/American group has electrified audiences on three continents for years. They have expanded their ever-growing family of fans at music festivals, theaters, military bases, weddings, memorial ceremonies, corporate events, and more.
This has even included shows with world-renowned violinist/composers Lindsey Stirling and Alison Krauss, as well as airplay on TV and radio, and performances at non-Celtic venues such as the World Music Festival in Quebec, where they have both kicked off and closed the six-day event to widespread acclaim (they’ve been asked to play this festival ten years in a row and counting).
In 2021, they charted at #12 in the world for their rendition of “The Boondock Saints Theme,” and #3 and #7 in North America for their “Boondock Saints Theme” and “The Gael from Last of the Mohicans.” In 2017, they became the St. Paddy’s Band of Rogers radio stations nationwide when they recorded Celtic versions of contemporary songs for airplay.
In 2018, they appeared at festivals in Scotland, including their appearance as the first international act at the Cowal Highland Gathering, one of the largest Celtic events in the world. In 2019, they headlined in Abu Dhabi and at the Greg Frewin Theatre in Niagara Falls and sold out the Harbourfront Centre Theatre in Toronto with Japanese taiko group, Nagata Shachu.
In 2020, they were invited to return to Scotland to perform at the 150th Crieff Highland Gathering and also continued performing Celtic/Japanese hybrid music under the name “The Dragon & the Rising Sun.”
With shows in Japan, Scotland, Italy, Spain, Guam, Cuba, Greece, and the United Arab Emirates, their hard-won road successes have established them as artists with bona fide international acclaim.
Renowned for their musical skill, quick wit, compelling storytelling, and engaging stage show, The Devil’s Brigade have mastered the art of creating an immediate connection with audiences. They are known for their epic, multi-instrumental sound that crosses the musical landscape to include jigs, reels, hornpipes, ballads, originals, covers, soundtracks, patriotic and military music, Irish foot-stompers, and more.
The Devil’s Brigade are fast becoming a household name with music lovers around the world, loved by young and old of all backgrounds.
Tom Comerford
Tom Comerford was a founder member of The Whole Shabang, one of the most successful, hard-working and respected Irish bands on the North American scene through the 1990’s, and that’s his voice on the original version of Dreamers And Believers – the song was written specifically for him.  Since 2000 he has continued to work as a full-time entertainer, albeit in a solo capacity, and this allows him a certain amount of flexibility. Whether entertaining a group of visitors to Ireland, performing at a corporate event, or flying high at a festival, you’re going to experience Tom in his natural habitat.
The Irish Lassies
The Irish Lassies are a 6-piece American Celtic folk band native to New York’s Finger Lakes region. The band started when long-time childhood friends decided to take their casual Irish sessions and grow into a professional folk group. During the worldwide lockdown, they spent a lot of time together writing original music. In only a few short years, the Irish Lassies have become known as one of the premier Celtic bands in New York State. Songs from their debut albums are being released on all music platforms. Their self-titled album The Irish Lassies is comprised of traditional Irish music with unique Lassies’ arrangements. Immigration Stories, an all-original album, aims to take listeners back to 18th and 19th century America with heart-felt true tales of Irish settlers. The Lassies’ unique style focuses on powerful ballads using six-part harmonies and soulful songs that will invite you to raise a glass, dance, and sing along with a set list that takes you on a journey from Ireland to America. Sláinte!

His talent and versatility provide the ability to deliver a song directly to the hearts of his audience; Andy is surely one of the greatest singing sensations on the Irish Music scene today. Christened Irish America’s Favorite Son by The New York Times, it is a title he richly deserves. Andy Cooney is one of The New York Tenors, along with New York Italian Tenor Christopher Macchio and New York Puerto Rican Tenor Daniel Rodriquez, a trio which has been receiving high critical acclaim for a number of years. Andy has recorded 19 albums to date, including Bright Brand New Day with Phil Coulter and his Orchestra. Andy and Phil frequently tour together and in March 2017, completed a three week tour of the US. Cooney’s Album , Irish Country Skyline, was released in the summer of 2016 as a journey back to his Country music roots. This release has been getting huge airplay all over Ireland and the UK with his hit singles On The Eighth Day and My Rose of Ballinrobe, both his own compositions. 2020 turned out to be an unusual year where the Coronavirus shut down the music industry. During 2020, Andy managed to release 4 new singles during the Coronaviruses pandemic, “Take Me Back To Dublin”, “We’re All In This Together” with his son Ryan, “Come Tennessee Me Tonight” with Country Music legend Larry Gatlin to releasing his latest Album in 2021, Take Here In Your Arms.    Andy Cooney is also known for his Cruise of Irish Stars which annually draws over 1,000 Irish and Irish Americans on a Caribbean Cruise enriched with the finest Irish entertainment including the great Ronan Tynan.
Shilelagh Law
Shilelagh Law is celebrating their twenty-seventh year together in 2025, a fact which they can’t quite believe themselves. Started in 1998 and still going strong, these five neighborhood guys from the Yonkers/Bronx plan to keep playing their particular brand of Bare-Knuckle New York Irish music for as long as people will listen, or until one of them breaks a hip, whichever comes first. Whether it’s at the corner pub or a packed stadium, Shilelagh Law prides themselves on bringing the energy and making lifelong fans at every gig. They’re excited to bring their sound back up to the Irish Alps in 2025 for another epic weekend of music.
Wooden Nickels
The Wooden Nickels, Brian McCarthy (Drums), Jessica Semins (Fiddle, Guitar and vocals), Sean feeney (Guitar, vocals, tin whistle, mandolin), and Brian McArtin (guitar, vocals) came together out of a love of Irish, Americana, Rock, Blues, Folk and bluegrass. Together they are storming the music scene with their blend of old favorites, new twists on classics, modern day Americana and Irish jigs and reels, for good measure!  Their presence in the Bronx and Yonkers Irish music scene is making a buzz that people are hearing, and they’re coming to a local watering hole and festival near you!
Richie Berger
Richie Berger is a multi-instrumentalist from Conesville, NY. He first came to Irish traditional music at 16 when he fell in love with the uilleann pipes, and was taught by Tom Wadsworth of Cobleskill, NY. Richie moved to Dublin, Ireland in 2018 for a Music Composition degree from Trinity College, where he began to play in numerous pubs in city centre (notably, one regular gig with piper Joe McKenna), and on Grafton St. busking. During his 5 years living in Dublin, he learned much about the music, as well as Ireland’s culture. In addition to uilleann pipes, Richie also plays low whistle and fiddle.

Derek Warfield and the Young Wolfe Tones
Six Decades On, Derek Warfield Continues to Entertain Audiences and Commemorate Irish Patriotism
Derek Warfield and the Young Wolfe Tones Set to Perform at the East Durham Irish Festival 2024
Derek Warfield has spent more than sixty years entertaining audiences with Irish music, releasing 13 best-selling albums, traversing the globe to perform at venues such as Carnegie Hall and the Royal Albert Hall, and playing for countless dignitaries like Barack Obama, Joe Biden, and Enda Kenny. He was featured in the centenary commemorations of the 1916 Easter Rising at the General Post Office in O’Connell Street Dublin, at the exact time that Padraig Pearse delivered the Irish proclamation one hundred years prior. He has been honored as the New York Society Dublin Man of The Year and the Ancient Order of Hibernians Spirit of Freedom Award winner, and he has been presented with the keys to the cities of San Francisco, New York, and Los Angeles. And yet, for all of these accomplishments, ask Warfield about his legacy, and he will not mention any of these honors. “My greatest legacy is carrying on the tradition, paying tribute to the heritage and tradition of Irish music that had been denied our ancestors for so long,” Warfield remarked in a recent interview in advance of his upcoming performances – with his band Derek Warfield and the Young Wolfe Tones – at the Cleveland Irish Cultural Festival and Milwaukee Irish Fest.
He gained fame as a member of the Wolfe Tones – the band that formed in 1963 and drew its name from Irish revolutionary Theobald Wolfe Tone – playing songs harkening back to revolutionary themes and Irish traditional music. As he toured with the Wolfe Tones throughout the 1960s, 1970s, and 1980s, Warfield noticed that the appreciation for Irish music was not limited to people living in Ireland. In 2001, Warfield left the Wolfe Tones and eventually started Derek Warfield and the Young Wolfe Tones, with a mission to “bring the old tradition of Irish balladry into a new age.” The band has released a number of albums, including last year’s “Let the Free Birds Fly,” and gained additional recognition through the aforementioned appearances in Washington, DC for the 2015 Friends of Ireland Speaker John Boehner St Patrick’s Day Luncheon and in Dublin for the 2016 centenary commemorations. They have toured Ireland extensively, including a busy summer tour this year, and continued Warfield’s globetrotting, highlighted by appearances at Irish festivals in North America and sold-out engagements in Australia.
About the Band
In explaining the success of the Young Wolfe Tones, Warfield is quick to praise the talent and dedication of his band members, and he relishes his role of bringing in their talents to create the unique sound of their music. He calls Damaris Woods, who plays banjo, the “best banjo player and artistic banjo player in the world today.” A resident of County Meath, Woods has gained critical acclaim wherever she has played and released a solo album of her own – “With A Banjo On My Knee” – which featured collaborations with Warfield and several other musicians. She also passes on her talents as a music teacher and organizer of the popular Ag Seinm Traditional Arts Camp, held annually in County Cavan. Andreas Durkin hails from County Cavan and serves as keyboardist and vocalist for the band. He has performed as a soloist and alongside his mother, Irish country singer Kathy Durkin, and as part of his own band Cheap Whiskey. He has recorded two albums and is well known for his hit song “The Cowboy Rides Away.” The youngest member of the band is Eddie Kane from County Kildare, another vocalist who also plays guitar. Kane’s mother played in a traditional Irish music band with her siblings, and he has performed with a number of other Irish singers who he had counted as influences of his musical passions. Brent Hopper lives in Cleveland, Ohio and has been playing music and touring for more than 25 years across the United States with several different musical configurations that included Folk, Bluegrass, Irish & Blues sounds. His inspiration in music has always been drawn from his strong passion for history & the people of various cultures. The songs he sings tell the stories of their plights for freedom, liberty, love, and the joy of coming together through music.
Next Stop: East Durham Irish Festival 2024
This May, Derek Warfield & The Young Wolfe Tones are excited to return to The East Durham Irish Festival 2024. “Travel is the difficult part,” Warfield acknowledged, “but the performance is the fun part. It’s hard work, but it doesn’t feel like work. I’ve been fortunate to be able to do it for a long time, and I’m always excited to perform in front of Irish communities across America and the rest of the world.”
Audiences will recognize many of the classic Irish revolutionary songs on the set lists of these performances, but as Warfield noted, “Many in the crowds do not know the reason why these songs became popular. I try to explain that in the show and communicate directly with the audience.” This is what makes Warfield such an exceptional artist. His music not only entertains, but commemorates Irish patriotism through song. “Other nations could express their patriotism through great institutions or memorials” Warfield explained. “We could never do that. Our monuments are in our music, in our songs. That reveals the power of our music. I have a wonderful band and we are able to bring the music and song to their highest perfection.”
Honoring the Past, Teaching the Next Generation
Looking back on his illustrious career, Warfield takes pride that he has been able to carry on the tradition of bringing Irish music to communities around the globe, acknowledging that he has followed in the footsteps of legendary musicians like John McCormack and the Clancy Brothers, among others, who had helped to create the audiences that have welcomed Warfield for so many years. Through the medium of song, Warfield has merged this commemoration of Irish patriotism and history with the opportunity to share this tradition with younger generations. Warfield summed up his view of his legacy most clearly by quoting Thomas Davis, the noted Irish writer who penned the song “A Nation Once Again” before his untimely death at the age of 30 in 1845. Davis wrote: “There’s no part of our heritage that can boast of higher claims or greater influencers than our songs and music.”
