Aoife Griffin

Trad Master/Instructor – Fiddle

Aoife Griffin is a traditional Irish fiddle player from County Roscommon, whose playing is shaped by the rhythmic drive of the Connacht tradition and the distinct flute-influenced sound of her home region.

From an early age, Aoife immersed herself in grúpaí ceoil, Siansa bands, local sessions, and concerts, developing a deep connection to the music that inspired her younger siblings to follow suit. Alongside Áine and Seán, Aoife also performed sean-nós dance throughout Ireland, enriching their shared bond through music and movement.

Aoife’s musical education was shaped by master musicians such as Lorraine Beirne, Paddy Ryan, and Oisín Mac Diarmada. She later earned a First-Class Honours degree in Irish Music Performance and the Irish Language from the Irish World Academy of Music and Dance at the University of Limerick. Under the guidance of Siobhán Peoples and Clare Egan, Aoife refined her technical skill and expanded her stylistic range across regional styles and influences.

Aoife has performed both nationally and internationally, with notable appearances including the West Coast Grúpaí Ceoil in Clifden, the North Atlantic Fiddle Convention in Aberdeen (2018), Dublin TradFest with the National Folk Orchestra of Ireland (2020), and a performance at Harvard University as part of a Silkroad/UL collaboration (2022).

Now based in Boston, Massachusetts, Aoife continues to advance traditional Irish music through teaching and community leadership. In 2025, she was appointed Director of the Boston Comhaltas Irish Music School, where she works to expand access to Irish music education for young musicians and strengthen the future of Irish cultural arts in the region.
