Emily Jean Flack

Trad Master/Instructor

Emily Jean Flack is a celebrated Canadian Celtic vocalist, pianist, and step dancer whose artistry blends tradition with fearless innovation.

Raised in a musical household, Emily is the daughter of Denise Flack, lead singer of the acclaimed Canadian Celtic group Leahy. Her journey began with step dancing—a cornerstone of Canadian and Irish folk traditions—before discovering her deep love for piano and singing. Immersed in Irish reels, jigs, and ballads, Emily developed a dynamic and expressive artistic voice rooted in her heritage.

Emily earned a Master of Arts degree in Traditional Irish Song from the Irish World Academy in 2017. Her passion for cultural education has led to teaching, lecturing, and performing at institutions such as the University of Limerick, University College Dublin, and the University of Toronto. She continues to teach music and dance, offering workshops in traditional and original song, Celtic piano styles, songwriting, and Ottawa Valley/French Canadian step dancing.

Her latest project, The EJF Collection, transforms her original songs into choral arrangements, combining her love of composition and harmony with community music-making. Emily’s 2019 debut EP Throwing Shapes earned acclaim for its fresh take on folk traditions, and her follow-up album How You Love Me continued to bridge her Celtic roots with contemporary pop influences.

Emily performs internationally—across Canada, the United States, the UK, and Europe—both as a solo artist and alongside renowned acts including Leahy, Natalie MacMaster, Shane Cook, Cherish the Ladies, and Bill Whelan of Riverdance fame. Her performances blend heartfelt vocals, intricate piano, and powerful step dancing to captivate audiences around the world.
